Benefits of Having a 2nd Shooter/ Assistant

In the spirit of keeping you, our clients and potential clients, well-informed about the photography industry, we decided to expand upon this common ‘frequently asked question’.  It seems to be a common assumption of new clients that the presence of a 2nd shooter (aka photographer) or assistant adds to the overall cost of a session.  For many clients on a tight budget or those looking to allocate expenses elsewhere, the “cost” assumption is further expanded upon with the idea that a 2nd shooter or assistant is unnecessary.  While employing additional personnel may appear to add to the bottom line of your session, the presence of said personnel enables us to deliver so much more while retaining competitive pricing. If you’ve ever witnessed or participated in a photography session, or even taken a glimpse inside a photography studio, you may have noticed a lot more equipment than merely a photographer and his/her camera.  The equipment needed to adequately capture your priceless moments while adhering to Ahnvee’s strict quality standards will vary depending on your venue to the time of day, your clothing and/ or prop choices and everything in between.  Given the fact that photographers are expected to capture every detail, […]

Seniors of 2018

I had the pleasure of shooting 27 seniors this past season, and each and every one of them brought something unique to their session.  My goal is always to showcase the personality and talents of each individual client, and this year’s seniors had no shortage of either!  We’ve put together a slideshow of some of the best photos from each senior session this past year.  Our intent with this video is to wish a stylish, personalized congratulations to the grads, as well as shout a big ‘THANK YOU’ to each of you who trusted me with capturing this exciting moment in your life! Just a bit more about each of the talented young men & women showcased in the video above: AINSLEY is a music lover who enjoyed participating in 4-H while in high school.  She plans to attend either ULL or McNeese to study Education, and dreams of someday being an English teacher in Africa. ALAYNA is an avid lover of makeup and shopping.  She plans to attend Louisiana Tech to study Speech Pathology, and dreams of balancing her career as a Speech Therapist with having a family. ASHA enjoys cooking, working out, shopping and sewing.  She majored in […]

Commercial Photography vs Portrait Photography

If you’re looking into photography to promote your business or service, you may be surprised to that pricing varies from that of a typical portrait session.  Not everyone understands how the processes differ, and as such, we’ve done our best to explain the fine points for those who will someday be requiring this service. What’s the difference between commercial photography and consumer photography? Consumer photos are taken for the client’s personal use, and individual prints are usually ordered from the photographer taking the photos.  Once consumers have purchased the prints of their choice, those prints will generally come with a print release that allows the consumer to print from their desired vendor, but this takes into consideration that the photos are not intended for mass-reproduction. The copyright to any images taken always remains with the photographer.  Essentially, the package price paid includes a license fee that enables the client to use the art that we create for them.  Being in possession of digital files or proofs does not give the client rights to reproduce them.  This is where the main differences between commercial and consumer photography come into play, because commercial images are specifically intended to be reproduced. Commercial photos […]

Pro’s & Cons of a “First Look”

Despite the old adage that its bad luck for the wedding couple to see each other prior to their wedding ceremony, the ‘first look’ is becoming increasingly more popular.  In case you aren’t familiar with the term, a first look is an exclusive moment between the wedding couple wherein they see each other for the first time before the ceremony.    While we here at Ahnvee Photography strongly suggest having a first look for the various advantages detailed below, we’ve also taken the time to consider the flip side of that coin and provide you with the reasons that couples decide against this option. A surprising number of couples who decide against a first look cite the medieval fear of bringing bad luck to their union.  However, in our experience, we’ve found that majority of these couples cannot accurately describe the origin of this superstition, nor why it came to be.  No worries, because we have done our research in hopes of dispelling this ancient myth! The notion that its bad luck for the bride and groom to see one another prior to the wedding ceremony was spawned back in the days of arranged marriages.  Back then, the bride and […]
